Wind by hand?

I need some spinning advice. I'm working some super chunky thick & thin yarn & my wheel won't pull it onto the bobbin, I'm winding it by hand. Is this just the way of super chunky- monkey yarn?
or am I a spaz?
Shannon, put the drink down & give a girl some advice ; )

Jillian,
Sometimes you need to change your ratio for thicker yarn. Also, you might need a larger flyer or orifice for chunky yarn. See Ashford's "Country Spinner" for reference: http://www.ashford.co.nz/spinning/spinning-frameset.htm. And no, you shouldn't have to wind your bobbin by hand.

Ha ha, Jillian, very funny. ;)

Christina's right -- a wheel like the Country Spinner is going to do that kind of yarn much, much more easily. Many spinners I know who specialize in it have either that exact wheel or something like it. Barring that (rather expensive unless you're going to spin it all the time) solution, I'd play with the ratios or do it on a spindle. Which wheel are you using?
