Energized Singles
Cool, no? Here's wher eI've been for four days. Spinning and knitting a ruffled wristlet out of energized singles.Energized singles are singles used right after they are spun, before they are set or plyed and told to behave. They bias all by their lonesome. You've got to use the yarn within the first 48, maybe 72 hours. If you wait 4 days they don't bias at all. Kathryn Alexander is the queen mama of energized singles and my new pal, mind expanding mentor and groovy goddess, Lynne Vogel makes amazing bags and sweaters out of them.
Here's what it looks like in action. The fiber is Lynne's Fairy Queen colorway in Merino/Tussah (ahhhhhhhh). It's spun to about 24 wpi, knit about 7 st per inch. How much did I use?.25 oz. No shit.

I've never seen that before. I'm in awe, lust and absolute whine mode, thanks. And the yarn just does that? 48 to 72 hours? Sounds like a local cheese. Crap I really have to check out this spinning thing.

Note to self, you can knit and not know how to ply. This is perfect, I didn't even know this could be done. Very neat. :)
I'm such an overspinner that EVERYTHING I spin is "energized" -- tee hee! Just you wait, Amy...I'll even show you what to do with teensy tiny amounts o' handspun in my book...

Actually, you can knit the singles when they've sat for a bit and lose the apparent energy. The bias returns when you wet the finished product.
note: I'm highly amused with the spam comments from dating sites, drawn by the idea of energised singles!
